Boo offers to stand in Iskandar Puteri if Kit Siang adamant on retirement
Johor DAP committee member Dr Boo Cheng Hau (seated, centre) says he is prepared to accept the appointment of DAP and PH to stand in Iskandar Puteri.
PETALING JAYA: Dr Boo Cheng Hau has offered himself to contest for the Iskandar Puteri parliamentary seat if DAP stalwart Lim Kit Siang is not willing to do so in the 15th general election.
The Johor DAP committee member said he personally hoped that Lim would defend his seat as he had the best chance of winning among all other PH candidates.
He said he believed that Pakatan Harapan veterans like Lim, opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim and Amanah president Mohamad Sabu could help “turn the tide and recapture Putrajaya” in the coming polls.
However, he said if Lim, who had stated in March that he would not stand in any election in the future, was not willing to stay on, he would step up to the plate.
“I am willing to accept the appointment of DAP and PH to stand in Iskandar Puteri,” he said, adding that he was grateful to his supporters who had proposed him as a candidate.
If Lim changed his mind, he said, he would assist the party veteran and become his “No 1 election worker”.
Boo said he felt Lim could still play a pivotal role both inside and outside Parliament, especially since various veteran leaders from PH, Perikatan Nasional, Barisan Nasional and Gerakan Tanah Air had announced their intention to recontest in their previous seats.
Although PH was now at a disadvantage, he said, it still had a good chance of breaking through by combining “both the experience and vibrancy of the old, middle and young generations”.
“PH needs more experienced senior leaders to continue to compete with other political entities to move the country forward,” he said.
In September, Lim also dismissed rumours that he will contest the Bakri parliamentary seat in GE15.
