Umno’s Isham Jalil may be left out in the cold
Umno Supreme Council member Isham Jalil’s nomination to contest in GE15 is doubtful.
PETALING JAYA: Umno Supreme Council member Isham Jalil may not be contesting the 15th general election (GE15) after all.
Earlier this month, FMT reported that a party insider said Selangor Umno was planning to nominate Isham to stand in a “PKR stronghold” in the state.
While the source did not name the seat, he said it had been a PKR stronghold since 2008 “and is considered ‘virtually impossible’ to win”.
However, it is understood that the plan is off the cards.
“Certain party leaders were against this as they feel he (Isham) should not be a ‘sacrificial lamb’,” a source told FMT.
“There are no other seats available, and it was decided that Isham would sit out GE15.”
The source said this is the second time Isham’s name has been dropped from the candidates’ list after GE14.
The former Selangor Barisan Nasional (BN) information chief, Isham organised a fundraiser at a cafe in Kuala Lumpur last week after stating that he was hopeful of being fielded as a candidate in GE15 after a meeting with Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamid.
“God willing, I will be fielded somewhere,” he was quoted as saying in a Malaysiakini report.
Last week, Selangor BN chairman Noh Omar said the coalition will field 21 new faces in Selangor, adding that the list of candidates has been sent to BN’s top leadership.
BN won only two parliamentary seats in Selangor in GE14 – Tanjong Karang (won by Noh Omar) and Sabak Bernam (Fasiah Fakeh).
Fasiah was among the six Umno MPs who left the party in December 2018 and is with Bersatu.

Selangor BN chairman Noh Omar doesn't like Isham. Noh wants to work with PAS in order to wrestle Selangor state from PH, but Isham e;f;f;-ed PAS kaukau. Thus Noh dismissed his previous post as UMNO Info Chief in Selangor as superfluous. UMNO Central then made him a member of the supreme council. Hardly likely to be nominated by Noh for a seat in Selangor, wakakaka.
