KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 30 — Malaysians took to social media today to voice their displeasure at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia’s latest dress code guideline for its 50th convocation ceremony next month.

A poster, bearing the university’s emblem has been circulating on social media platform, showing acceptable and unacceptable attire for graduands and guests who will be attending the convocation ceremony.

The saree and cheongsam, which are traditional dress for ethnic Chinese and Indians women, were listed in the prohibited category alongside a short-sleeved blouse and knee-length pencil skirt combination.

“UKM is this true? Why are you, a university, practising supremacist policies? Please STOP,” an internet user with the Twitter handle @annejames44 asked on her account, which showed a screengrab of the poster.

At the time of writing, the dress code page on UKM’s official website appeared to be undergoing updates when Malay Mail checked this afternoon.

Malay Mail has reached out to UKM’s corporate communication department for comment.
