DAP’s ‘culture’ to switch candidates to different areas, ex-MCA president says
Former MCA president Liow Tiong Lai criticised DAP for its tendency to switch candidates to different areas, calling it the party’s “culture”.
“They can never keep an MP for too long in a constituency because the party knows their elected representatives are not fulfilling promises made during polls.
“If you can’t put your heart into it and serve the people, how can you continue to contest?” Liow (above) was quoted as saying by The Star.
He made the claim during a press conference after an event at the Bentong Chinese Assembly Hall today.
Liow was commenting on DAP's recent move to swap incumbent Bentong MP Wong Tack with rising star, Young Syefura Othman in the constituency.
Wong Tack, who was dropped by the DAP from contesting the seat, announced that he will contest as an independent candidate for Bentong, in the upcoming 15th general election (GE15).

DAP had offered for Wong to be fielded at Cameron Highlands, but the latter did not agree to it.
On the matter, Liow said that Wong’s decision to run as an independent in the upcoming election will provide Bentong constituents with a chance to judge the incumbent’s performance from 2018 - when Wong was first elected.
“He (Wong) should be evaluated and punished by the locals in Bentong.
“Let the people judge. It’s not for me to judge but everyone knows Wong did not carry out his duties as an MP.
“(In fact), Bentong has been left behind in the last four years,” he said, claiming that Bentong’s development agenda was hampered following the swing in DAP’s favour after GE15.
“Many locals want development to continue and I can ensure the agenda resumes," he added.
Liow, who won the seat in 1999 and defended it until 2018, was identified as MCA's sole candidate for the Bentong parliamentary seat.
He was defeated by Wong in the 14th general election.
