US should be sanctioned by UN for adding fuel to fire in Ukraine

US considers HAWK air defence equipment for Ukraine

WASHINGTON: The US is considering sending older HAWK air defence equipment from storage to Ukraine to help it defend against Russian drone and cruise missile attacks, two US officials told Reuters.

The HAWK interceptor missiles would be an upgrade to the Stinger missile systems – a smaller, shorter range air defence system – that the US has already sent to blunt Russia’s invasion.

The Biden administration would use the Presidential Drawdown Authority (PDA) to transfer the Hawk equipment which is based on Vietnam-era technology, but has been upgraded several times.

The PDA allows the US to transfer defence articles and services from stocks quickly without congressional approval in response to an emergency.

Reuters was unable to determine how many HAWK systems and missiles the US has available to transfer. The White House declined to comment.

The above is the predecessor to the Patriot missile defence system made by Raytheon Technologies, which remains off the table for Ukraine, US officials have told Reuters.

US president Joe Biden pledged to Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky that Washington will provide Ukraine with advanced air systems after a devastating missile barrage from Russia earlier this month.

Nato secretary general Jens Stoltenberg has said that Spain intends to send four HAWK launchers.

The US will likely initially send interceptor missiles for the Hawk system to Ukraine because it was unclear if enough US launchers were in good repair, one US official told Reuters.

The US systems have been in storage for decades.

A PDA is being considered for later this week, US officials have said.

One US official said it would likely be about half the size of the recent security assistance packages which have been around US$700 million.

It was not immediately clear if Hawk interceptor missiles will be included. However, US officials have previously cautioned that size and composition of military aid packages can change rapidly.

Since the Feb 24 Russian invasion of neighbouring Ukraine, which Moscow calls a “special military operation”, the US has sent around US$17.6 billion worth of security assistance to Kyiv.

  1. The stupid mentality of RuZian supporters like Ktemoc.

The right way for a woman to do is to surrender to her rapist.
If a woman resists the rapist with all her strength or if you provide aid to the woman to fight the rapist , you are adding fuel to the fire, and must be sanctioned.

    Idiots will be idiots.

  2. The Yanks usually don't make bombastic claims about the performance of the weapons systems, unlike the RuZians.
A RuZian pilot who flies into the Hawk's 30 mile range still has a high likelihood of having a bad day.

The enhanced Hawk missile is still in front line service in a number of countries including Singapore, though they are in process of being replaced.
The reason they are not in front line service with the US Army is they have better systems now, but the Hawks are still pretty deadly.

The US have them in Active Storage, that means they are still maintained , batteries replaced, turned on occasionally.

    1. How many Hawk's missile defense can US provides to Ukraine - system & missiles?

Against a swarm of unmanned suicide drones, the Hawk's defense is a no brainier failure!

The drones r cheap & can be deployed in large number at one go. The Hawk missile is expensive per piece. Besides a Hawk missile can targeted a single drone per launch. By initiated a missile launcher, the Hawk position is exposed - making itself a drone attacking target!

An aging classic missile defense system, like Hawk, is NO MATCH for a modern drone attacking HW!

The Yank military experts sure know about this weak points of the Hawk missile defense system. Yet they r still wholesomely supplying to the Ukraine - in an old stock clearing house sale!

Eat yr heart out, know-nothing mfer.
