Nur Jazlan not convinced Chinese youth can stop being anti-BN

Nur Jazlan Mohamed has reportedly received demand from Chinese voters in Pulai for the Johor BN deputy chief to make a comeback in the 15th general election (GE15).

However, Jazlan said despite having support from the Chinese business community, he is unconvinced that the Chinese youth would back him.

"It appears that the Chinese business community is determined to push for change in GE15.

"But I have not decided on whether to stand by my decision on not to contest.

"I am still not convinced that the Chinese youth can stop feeling prejudiced and that they're 'not benefiting' or being sidelined from BN policies, even though they actually get abundant opportunities in education and the economy which Pakatan Harapan rejected and betrayed," he added.

The former Pulai MP said this in a Facebook post responding to a China Press article which did a straw poll among Chinese voters in Pulai who wanted the BN leader to run again.

Jazlan (above) was the constituency's MP from 2004 until he was defeated in the 2018 general election.

His father Mohamed Rahmat held the seat from its creation in 1974 until 1999.

No discrimination in BN

In his online posting, Jazlan said that the Chinese youth must realise that Malaysian citizenship will be valuable when they're old, as the country is among the safest, economically and politically, compared to western or neighbouring countries.

There were also thousands of examples that BN does not discriminate or is biased towards any Malaysians, he added.

He cited the rescue of young Chinese Malaysians scammed into forced labour in Cambodia, as an example. They were saved by NGOs with the assistance of the Ismail Sabri Yaakob administration.

As such, he said the Chinese youth must rid themselves of feelings of prejudice, or being discriminated against, and prove that they have changed.

"Throughout BN's reign, all races had their rights based on the Federal Constitution.

"In fact, Umno itself has adapted to current demands and no longer champions the Malays alone, but all races.

"That is why we must choose a government that is stable, strong and is able to ensure our future long term, including for when we're old," he added.
