KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 24 — Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid claimed Gerakan Tanah Air chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was insincere in wanting to cooperate with Pakatan Harapan’s Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Perikatan Nasional’s Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

According to Berita Harian, Mahdzir pointed out that Anwar and Dr Mahathir have been enemies for decades since their falling out in 1998, and claimed the former prime minister was reaching out to Anwar again purely to ensure his own political survival.

He added that when they tried to set aside their enmity for the 14th general election, their cooperation still eventually collapsed.

“The people can see when they sat together once for 22 months, what did the PH government do when the government was formed? Dr Mahathir, Anwar and Muhyiddin were all in the government.

“After that, they went their separate ways because it was not their dream to protect the people, they only talked about politics,” he was quoted as saying.

Previously, Dr Mahathir said GTA was open to negotiating with both PN and PH to face the “common enemy” for the upcoming GE15.

Anwar has said PH was not opposed to forming new alliances but said these must be based on shared values and principles rather than solely for the purpose of opposing Barisan Nasional.
