PETALING JAYA: Kedah Amanah chairman Phahrolrazi Zawawi has been dismissed from the party with immediate effect, says Amanah secretary-general Hatta Ramli.

Hatta said the dismissal came after Phahrolrazi, the Alor Mengkudu assemblyman, was found to have violated the party’s constitution by not complying with the party’s decisions and acting against the party’s interests.

“Deputy Kedah Amanah chairman Dr Ismail Salleh will carry out the duties of the state chief,” he said in a statement.

“Both of the above decisions are effective immediately.”

The dismissal decision came in the wake of a report by Malaysian Gazette that Kedah Amanah leaders will be boycotting the PH candidate for Jerai in GE15, due to their dissatisfaction with DAP’s decision to field Kedah DAP deputy chief Zulhazmi Shariff in the seat.

Meanwhile, Amanah’s communications director Khalid Samad said the decision to dismiss Phahrolrazi was made as the party could not accept his actions in calling for Kedah Amanah members to boycott GE15.

Khalid said party leaders can have differences of opinion when it comes to party strategies and seat allocation. However, they should not be calling for other party leaders and members to boycott the general election, which is inappropriate and unacceptable.

“It is akin to a sabotage attempt which will affect Amanah and Pakatan Harapan’s interests,” Khalid said in a statement.

“Amanah acknowledges and thanks him for his role in the party, which includes being one of the founding leaders and becoming the party chief in Kedah, but what he did was excessive.”

When contacted by FMT regarding the matter, Phahrolrazi said he would be having a press conference at 5.30pm.
