Anwar to confirm if he is contesting in Tambun on Oct 29
PKR president Anwar Ibrahim will take on Bersatu deputy president Ahmad Faizal Azumu, should he decide to move from Port Dickson to Tambun in GE15.
PETALING JAYA: Perak Pakatan Harapan (PH) will welcome and support PKR president Anwar Ibrahim if he chooses to contest the Tambun parliamentary seat in the 15th general election (GE15).
Perak PH chief Mujahid Yusof Rawa said Anwar, who is now Port Dickson MP, was expected to confirm his intentions at the coalition’s national convention in Ipoh on Oct 29, Berita Harian reported.
“If he chooses to contest there, it will be a huge honour for us here in Perak,” the daily quoted him as saying.
The Tambun seat is currently represented by Bersatu deputy president Ahmad Faizal Azumu, who is also the youth and sports minister. He won with a majority of 5,320 votes in GE14 against Barisan Nasional’s Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah and PAS’ Ibrahim Zakaria.
Perak DAP had earlier invited Anwar to contest the seat, which it described as being held by the “traitor”. Faizal won the seat under the PH banner but Bersatu left the coalition following the Sheraton Move in February 2020.
Meanwhile, Faizal has welcomed the challenge should Anwar choose to contest in Tambun.
He said he would not be intimidated by anyone who wants to contest against him in GE15, adding it is part of the democratic process.
