PAS-Bersatu ties sour in Selangor over distribution of PN posts

Selangor PAS leaders are unhappy with the distribution of PN division chiefs’ posts, which covers the 22 parliamentary constituencies in the state.

PETALING JAYA: Tension is rising between PAS and Bersatu in Selangor due to dissatisfaction among state leaders over the distribution of divisional posts between Perikatan Nasional’s component parties, said a source.

The source in PN said state PAS leaders were unhappy with the distribution of PN division chiefs’ posts, which covers the 22 parliamentary constituencies in Selangor.

“According to an early agreement on the distribution of the posts, nine would go to Bersatu, nine to PAS, and the remaining four to Gerakan. This was agreed to by all three PN parties.

“This was suddenly changed to 10 for Bersatu, eight for PAS, and four for Gerakan,” he told FMT, adding that PAS did not agree to this.

The source said this had prompted several divisional PAS leaders to boycott an event to be attended by Muhyiddin Yassin tonight, where the PN chairman will hand over the surat watikah (letter of appointment) to the appointees.

He said every PAS division was supposed to send 30 representatives to the event at a Shah Alam hotel tonight, including 10 each from their youth and women’s wings.

“However, as a sign of protest, only the PAS division chiefs will be present. There were supposed to be about 400 PAS representatives tonight, but less than 40 will be there.”

Selangor PN is led by the coalition’s information chief, Azmin Ali, who is also the state’s former menteri besar.

Selangor has 22 parliamentary seats and 56 state seats. The opposition has been governing the state since 2008, first under Pakatan Rakyat and then as Pakatan Harapan since 2018.
