Cops probe Thomas’ ‘failed Malay govt’ remark, PSM chief summoned

Former attorney-general Tommy Thomas and PSM chairman Dr Michael Jeyakumar Devaraj were panellists at the ‘Dark Forces Towards GE15’ forum held on Sept 17.

PETALING JAYA: Police have launched an investigation after former attorney-general Tommy Thomas told a forum last month that the opposition should tell the public a “Malay government” had failed.

In a statement, Parti Sosialis Malaysia said its chairman, Dr Michael Jeyakumar Devaraj, had been summoned by Bukit Aman’s classified criminal investigation unit (D5) to give his statement over the matter on Thursday.

Jeyakumar and Thomas were panelists at the forum.

PSM deputy chairman S Arulchelvan hit out at Bukit Aman over the probe, saying Thomas and the other speakers at the forum were entitled to their opinions.

He said summoning those who spoke at a public forum went against the spirit of free speech and freedom of expression enshrined in the constitution.

“The police action is yet another waste of public funds,” Arulchelvan said in a statement.

“They should instead spend our tax money on better things for the benefit of the people and not entangle themselves in the political vendetta of certain quarters.”

Thomas had made the remark while speaking at the “Dark Forces Towards GE15” forum held on Sept 17. He had urged the opposition to get voters to ask themselves whether a “Malay government” had made the country better and more efficient.

He said Dr Mahathir Mohamad had resigned as prime minister because of the impression that the government was not “Malay enough”.

However, two and a half years after his resignation, the Cabinet was dominated by Malays and non-Malays had been sidelined, he was reported to have said.

The other panellists at the forum were human rights lawyer and activist Siti Kasim, DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang and Gerak Independent co-founder Tawfik Ismail.

  1. After February 2020, the PN/BN Leadership proudly went around proclaiming they had a "tulin" Malay Government, unlike the DAP dominated PH.

Now that this Government has so many proven failures, they get very touchy about the reminder that this IS a "Malay Government"

  2. But when Hadi derided the nons saying corruption is caused by the nons, the great PDRM displayed their elegant silence.

Malaysia has a majority race which has an inferiority complex and expects the nons to kow tow to them.

And we are supposed to be impressed with this "great" religion called islam?
