Judge Nazlan probe paper with MACC, says Azam

MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki said the investigation paper was handed back to the agency by the Attorney-General’s Chambers for further action.

PUTRAJAYA: The investigation paper on the probe into Court of Appeal judge Nazlan Ghazali is with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), its chief commissioner, Azam Baki, said.

Azam said it was normal for the investigation paper to go back and forth between MACC and the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC).

😁😂😅😆😊

This comes after Attorney-General Idrus Harun said last month that the investigation paper was not with his department, sparking questions about the investigation’s progress among the public.

“Maybe the AG’s statement was brief. Maybe he meant that the investigation paper was not in his hands. But the investigation paper was actually handed to him and passed back to us for further action,” Azam told a press conference today.

“From our perspective, we thought that we had completed the investigation and submitted the investigation paper to them. So now the investigation paper is with my officers for further action.”

Questions regarding the investigation paper arose after blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin published documents purportedly prepared by MACC, claiming that the agency had wrapped up its investigation.

This prompted Umno secretary-general Ahmad Maslan to urge MACC to confirm the authenticity of the documents.

Idrus had said he could not confirm their authenticity since the probe paper was not with him.

Nazlan, who presided over Najib Razak’s SRC International trial in the High Court, had sentenced the former prime minister to 12 years’ jail and a RM210 million fine.

In his Federal Court appeal, Najib argued that Nazlan was under a serious conflict of interest when presiding over the trial.

Najib lost the final appeal and is serving his sentence at Kajang prison.
