Ditch Bersatu if you want to work with us, Umno man tells PAS

Umno Supreme Council member Isham Jalil says the party is not budging from the annual general assembly’s decision not to work with Bersatu.

PETALING JAYA: An Umno leader has told PAS to ditch Muhyiddin Yassin’s Bersatu if it wants to work with the Barisan Nasional lynchpin.

Umno Supreme Council member Isham Jalil maintained that the party was not budging from the annual general assembly’s decision not to work with Bersatu, which he labelled as “traitors”, in the next general election (GE15).

Isham said Muhyiddin and Bersatu also needed to accept the fact that PAS’ grassroots wanted to work with Umno.

“Uniting the ummah doesn’t mean uniting with traitors,” he said in a Facebook post.

He also took aim at PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang and his deputy, Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, for maintaining their desire to work with both Umno and Bersatu, dismissing this as wishful thinking.

“To Hadi and Tuan Ibrahim, I ask: how many seats does PAS want from Umno, and how many seats does PAS want Umno to give to Bersatu?

“And when PAS and Bersatu win these seats that we’ve given (to them) thanks to the Umno grassroots’ support, what guarantee will you give that you, PAS and Bersatu, will continue supporting us and won’t change your minds as you did in the past?

“The Umno grassroots are smarter than that, we won’t let ourselves be deceived by you.”

Isham maintained that PAS cannot have its cake and eat it too, while Umno would not team up with parties that did not have principles and changed their minds frequently.

“Accept the reality that we have decided to go solo,” he said.

PAS spiritual leader Hashim Jasin confirmed yesterday that there had been secret discussions between the Islamic party and certain Umno leaders to ensure straight fights with Pakatan Harapan in GE15.

Muhyiddin, the chairman of Perikatan Nasional, said he would seek an explanation from the PAS leadership regarding the secret discussions.

PAS is a component party of the Bersatu-led PN, while it has the Muafakat Nasional pact with Umno, which was formalised in 2019.
