BARISAN Nasional must take the opportunity that God has sent in the form of floods to return to power in Penang, Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said today.
"God has sent down his wrath upon those who have boasted that Penang is free of floods; but what has happened is that God is showing us that this is the best for us to take back Penang," he said at the opening of the 46th Gerakan National Conference in Cheras today.
Penang was hit by the worst floods in 20 years last Sunday, which claimed seven lives.
Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng had called Zahid early Sunday morning to plead for help from federal agencies after floods hit 60% of the state, especially Georgetown and Seberang Prai Utara.
Zahid said BN and the federal government had helped sincerely and “colour-blindly” in distributing aid to the state, including announcing a RM150 million allocation for flood mitigration programmes in Sungai Pinang.
He also said BN never politicised the issue, especially regarding the aid given.

“Did we politicise the issue? Not at all,” Zahid said, referring to a picture of him embracing Lim upon arrival at the Butterworth Air Force Base on Tuesday.

Now, this fire & brimstone type of sermon would serve Zahid well in an UMNO rally or assembly, but why did he deliver such an agama, raja dan bangsa spill at a chiefly Chinese Gerakan congress?
It would seem his speech was more directed at the Malay voters in Penang rather than the sceptical Chinese.
Perhaps he didn't want Malay votes to spill over to PAS or worse, PKR and Pribumi?
Zahid has a knack of putting his foot in his mouth and this appears to be another. The Yahweh-Noah scare campaign was ruined by a pathetic Nik Abduh a couple of years ago so the scenario is hardly laku anymore. But it seems Zahid still believe there is nothing better than re-cycling an old scare.
This is the nastiness of Malaysian politics where, alas, god is frequently dragged into its fray.
If god had anything to do with politics, every Tom,Dick, his dog and pussy can be PM.If god can have his way, there will be love and no war.If god can have his way,Donald Trump will not be groping every lady who works in the white house by the pussy.
ReplyDeleteIf the American people can have their way, video tapes and pictures of Donald Trump having orgy sex with five call girls in a Russian hotel would already circulating in the internet.Wakakaka.
indeed wakakaka
Deletei thot god only talk to ulama, it seem he now trust politician more. pas pasti jealous.
ReplyDeleteZahid went overboard in his words, but there is a kernel of truth in that the massive floods in Penang, and Lim Guam Eng and DAP's Tai-Zhi style response opens up a major political opportunity for BN.
ReplyDeleteBN did not even need to actively politicised the issue - a self-goal by DAP and Lim GE.
