Gerakan Youth has suggested for the Datukship and other higher titles to be limited to those 40 years old and above following the recent high-profile assault case involving a 29-year-old "Datuk Seri".
The businessperson had been charged with assault of three People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela) members as well as a charge related to a past drug-related offence.
“In the height of the recent assault on the Rela members and previous high profile incident involving young ‘Datuk’, Gerakan Youth propose a minimum age of 40 years old and above be set as criteria for Datukship or above titles from the federal and state level.

I don't believe non-Malays should interfere with the prerogatives of HM and HRHs.
Though HM and HRHs usually approve those the political authorities recommend for knighthoods, the issue of datukship has been principally a Malay domain since time immemorial.
The only possible exception is in Penang where the committee under CM Lim Guan Eng recommends would-be datuks for the Yang Di-pertuan Negeri to approve.
But even this may soon be gone as PKR is shifting its base to Penang, and we may yet see a Malay CM in Nurul Izzah (after the DAP has been back-stabbed and ousted kau kau by PKR), wakakaka.
what is 29 when I obtained my datukship at only 19-years old Yang Berbahagia above was reputed to be Alvin Gor |
