A dinner for two families at a famous restaurant in Kuala Lumpur last weekend ended on a shocking note when the guests were presented with a massive bill for fish head curry.
According to a receipt posted on social media by one of the diners on Monday (Nov 20), the four bowls of fish head curry he ordered came up to RM600.
The sum translates to RM150 a bowl and excludes the cost of the other dishes and beverages ordered, which took the grand total to almost RM1,000.

While the fish head curry was expensive, I think the news headlines have been too sensational. Both Star and FMT have the same headlines, which at first glance implied RM600 per fish head, whilst teh actual truth is the cost was for FOUR bowls, and not one as I had initially thought.
Yes, RM150 would still be reasonably stiff but couldn't the headlines be:

But I suppose the headlines then won't be sensational enough.
that's how I like mine, where the fish is very dead (wakakaka) and with lots of lady's fingers (okra) and give me some 'black' (caramelised) sauce (aw tauyu) to go with the dish and steamed rice |
Nobody mentioned GST... that would really get you into rabies state, screaming Fake News.
ReplyDeleteI had fish head curry for lunch for two at Pelita Jalan Ampang just about a month ago. I think it was about that price? But it was a good lunch - awesomely fresh kepala ikan merah and marvellous curry. Kas kas mahal agaknya.
ReplyDeletekg attap cost half the price for 2 to 3. not sure how to compare unless same type of fish.
DeleteRM 141 (+ 6% GST) for a bowl of fish head curry is on the expensive side, but not utterly out of line.
ReplyDeleteThe fact is the Cost of dining out in KL/ Klang Valley has gone up by leaps and bounds in the last 2 1/2 years.
As Ktemoc says the cost is consumption based. It's your choice whether you want to consume.
