SHAH ALAM, Dec 15 — PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today confirmed early negotiations for Umno’s Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz to possibly join his party.
Speaking outside his party’s special congress here today, Anwar declined to disclose the parties involved in the discussion.
“There are currently preliminary discussions,” Anwar said after he was asked whether Tengku Zafrul has applied to join PKR.
Earlier this week, a news portal published a speculative report suggesting that Tengku Zafrul would jump from Umno to PKR, which are both nominally allies in the national unity government.
Earlier today, Tengku Zafrul said he would clarify the rumour soon, but without expressly denying them.

kt comments:
Tengku Zafrul is NOT a special nor extraordinary politician such that political parties would clamour to recruit him into their folds.
But he has POWERFUL backings which thus far have ensured his two ministerial positions were secured through the Senate backdoor. But senate-wise, Tengku Zafrul is nearing his tether in his 2nd and final stint as a senator.
He now needs to desperately obtain a tenure as a federal representative in order to continue as a federal minister, or failing which, a tenure as a state representative to become a state MB, most likely of Selangor.
Truth be told, neither UMNO or PKR (or his original party BERSATU) wants him as he's just a backdoor bloke without any special talent, but because of his very powerful connections, he has been a minister no matter which political party or coalition is in government.
I would say Anwar has been "told" to take him into PKR as the next best option for his continued "political life". Poor Anwar probably hasn't a choice.
