Pardons Board didn’t discuss application by Najib, says source

Reports had said the panel, chaired by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, would meet today to discuss the former prime minister’s request.

PETALING JAYA: The Pardons Board has not discussed former prime minister Najib Razak’s application for a royal pardon, according to a source in the know.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, the source denied reports claiming that the board, chaired by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, would discuss Najib’s application today.

Najib was jailed last year after the Federal Court upheld his conviction in the SRC International case.

The former Pekan MP was convicted in July 2020 on charges of abuse of power, money laundering and criminal breach of trust over SRC funds amounting to RM42 million. He was sentenced to 12 years’ jail and fined RM210 million.

After the Court of Appeal dismissed his appeal in December 2021, he began serving his prison term on Aug 23, 2022 following the Federal Court’s decision to uphold the original conviction and sentence.

On March 31, a separate five-member Federal Court bench dismissed Najib’s bid to review his conviction and sentence in a majority decision.

  1. I was told there is a big push for Najib to be out FREE before the State Elections, which will likely be held by June.

UMNO and some in PH are convinced this will be a Game Changer.

Yeah, it will be a game changer all right. Good reason for many PH supporters to stay home on Election Day, and refuse to give their vote for PH.
At this rate, even Penang may get a Black Eye maybe not enough for PH to lose the State Government, but many PH ADUN will fall.

Anwar may be betting that PH supporters have no choice but to support them, regardless of Najib is out. Don't bet on it.
