KUALA LUMPUR – After being on the receiving end of criticism by Selangor PAS for supposedly failing to take measures to alleviate voters’ cost of living burden, Bangi MP Syahredzan Johan today hit back at the Perikatan Nasional party.
Taking to Twitter, the DAP lawmaker reminded his political opponents that not everything should be made into social media content.
This is after Selangor PAS, via its official Twitter account, said the party remains committed to reducing the cost of living burden of Selangor residents by distributing free bubur lambuk, while taking a swipe at Syahredzan for purportedly failing to do the same.
“PAS claims to give out 400 packs of bubur lambuk. Go ahead, good. But don’t claim that this reduces cost of living,” Syahredzan posted this morning.
“Kajang assemblyman YB Hee (Loy Sian) distributes 1,000 packs of bubur lambuk in just one Ramadan bazaar, but I don’t see him making content claiming to reduce the people’s cost of living.”
Kajang is one of three state seats under the Bangi parliamentary constituency.
In a separate post, Syahredzan pointed out to PAS that the distribution of the savoury porridge, which was first initiated by mosques and suraus, is a tradition that has been long practised by mainstream political parties.
“Stop using content which is originally well intended for state election purposes,” he said, in reference to the upcoming state polls due to be held within the next few months.
Many social media users were also critical of PAS, reminding the party not to resort to cheap politicking by making accusatory remarks, while questioning its claim that bubur lambuk distribution would address the cost of living issue.
“It’s clear now that the distribution of the bubur lambuk by PAS is insincere, made merely for provocative content,” user @samlgk2023 said.
“Even the NGO that I join distributes 800 packs. We don’t make provocations. Why? Because we are sincere, with no political intention.”
Another user @mmnazimm claimed that PAS-backed early education network Pusat Asuhan Tunas Islam (Pasti) has been collecting donations from parents to make bubur lambuk, but that the packs were later plastered only with the party’s logo.
Meanwhile, @thefikrey pointed out that the Selangor government has been consistently assisting the rakyat in facing the high cost of living through various initiatives, including the sale of basic food items at affordable prices. – The Vibes, April 16, 2023
