"Someone" is said to be up to monkey tricks AGAIN

Coup claim baseless, state polls our focus - Bersatu No 2

Claims of Perikatan Nasional (PN) planning a fresh plot to oust the Anwar Ibrahim administration are baseless, said Bersatu deputy president Ahmad Faizal Azumu.

Faizal (above) told Malaysiakini there were no discussions within Bersatu and PN to unseat the prime minister as reported by The Vibes today.

PN, he said, was focussing on the upcoming six-state elections - in particular states held by Pakatan Harapan.

“Honestly, I did not hear of such plans. (The allegation) is baseless.

“I’m in touch with my party president (Muhyiddin Yassin) on a daily basis. He has been telling us to work the grounds and get our machinery moving (to face the state polls).

“He has never mentioned any attempts to bring down the government. I didn’t hear of any negotiations (on this matter) and there are no talks with any MPs from the government bloc, no talks with BN MPs as well,” he said.

Earlier, The Vibes claimed there are talks of an attempt hatched by PN to convince several BN MPs to quit to pave way for by-elections.

According to the report, should the BN MPs win, they will be able to form a new government - with the help of MPs from Sabah and Sarawak - and install PN leader Muhyiddin Yassin as the prime minister, again.

The report also claimed the plotters are expecting Dr Mahathir Mohamad and former finance minister Daim Zainuddin to fund the plot because Bersatu’s bank accounts were frozen.

Faizal laughed when asked to comment on the alleged financiers of the plot.

“I had the opportunity to break fast with our dear ayahanda (father) Mahathir recently. We didn’t talk politics. We only spoke about the ‘Malay proclamation’ rally.

“He’s fine, but showing signs of age. We pray for his good health. As far as I know, Daim is not doing so well. He’s been keeping to himself and not accepting any visitors,” said Faizal.

Anwar currently has the support of 148 MPs while PN has the remaining 74 MPs.

In order to topple Anwar, PN will have to secure the support of every MP from Gabungan Parti Sarawak, Gabungan Rakyat Sabah, Warisan, Parti Bangsa Malaysia, Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat, Muda, an independent, and at least three more MPs who are currently with BN.
