PETALING JAYA: Malaysian Muslims have defended popular food vlogger Ceddy Ang against accusations he was “messing around” with Islam when he fasted during Ramadan.

His followers were quick to show their support for the influencer, after one netizen identified as “mjthd” asked why Ang was messing around by fasting the entire day and taking part in “sahur” even though the latter knew that Ramadan was a ritual exclusive to Muslims.

One netizen identified as Shazrie apologised on behalf of every Muslim for “our holier than thou brother”.

“You did well participating with others in their traditions, just like a true Malaysian. Keep it up,” he wrote.

Another netizen, identified as Nad, said it was people like “mjthd” who made others fear Islam.

One Don AnonIsAmuse said he knew Ang would not mess around when it came to religion and that the latter was always sensitive to such matters.

“Keep it up Ceddy. I love what you’re doing.”

Another netizen known as Fade Fan Johnny praised Ang for his commendable effort.

“I’ll say, let non-Muslims join in the fun.”

Many suggested the vlogger ignore the criticism by “mjthd”.

Meanwhile, in a separate thread, Ang rejected the claim he was “messing around”, saying such a perception only cropped up because he was a non-Muslim.

“I have so many things to learn and unlearn. Maybe this puasa is the beginning of something beautiful.

“You don’t know, so stop acting like God by questioning my intention.”
