Khairy reminded not be enticed by Muhyiddin’s Bersatu state polls candidacy

“Don’t venture into the dark side!”, “Better join PKR or DAP for Bersatu is a falling star” and “Your non-Malays support is as good as gone” are some food for thought from netizens to former health minister Khairy Jamaluddin following the move by Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to offer him candidacy in the upcoming state polls.

This was revealed by Bersatu information chief Senator Datuk Razali Idris who claimed that such offer was made when Khairy visited the house of the Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) chairman after he was sacked from UMNO.

“During the meeting, Muhyiddin offered Khairy to run in the state elections on Bersatu’s ticket if he was still interested in politics,” the Bersatu supreme council member was quoted as saying by Utusan Malaysia.

“However, a few conditions were set, among which, he has to become a Bersatu member first and the seat he will contest will be decided by the PN leadership.”

However, the former Rembau MP who was defeated as a parachute candidate for the Sungai Buloh parliamentary seat during the recently concluded 15th General Election (GE15) has yet to respond to Muhyiddin’s offer by asking for some time to decide.

On a personal note, however, Razali who is also Terengganu Bersatu chairman said he would not mind welcoming and accepting Khairy as a member of the UMNO splinter party based on the latter’s reputation in politics.

“But still Khairy has to abide by the party’s decision to place him wherever (as a candidate) whether in Selangor or Negeri Sembilan,” he stressed.

In a related development, Razali also said that Bersatu has an open-door policy for any former UMNO leaders to come on board if they can further fortify the party.

“As we all know, many UMNO leaders have been sacked from the party. If they can strengthen Bersatu, there is no harm in them joining us,” he added.

On Jan 28, the UMNO supreme council sacked 44 members, including Khairy and its former Selangor chief Tan Sri Noh Omar. Additionally, a number of other UMNO leaders were also slapped with a six-year suspension with no specific reasons were given for such action.

Below are a few more advice from netizens’ courtesy of Malaysiakini’s subscribers:

ISA.42: Entice him with MB post if he wins and he will take your offer!

USA_Statue of Liberty: KJ stays with no party for now till next GE (general election).

Determined Sarawakian: KJ, if you’re smart enough, please don’t ‘sell’ yourself in a demeaning manner if you want to build reforms against Ketuanan. This isn’t the way.

Open minded 2281: KJ should consider joining a multi-racial policy if he looks forward. Joining racist parties leaves KJ no different than all the racist leaders.

Anon25: It will be political suicide for KJ to join any party in PN. Bersatu is a backdoor party containing UMNO rejects and PAS reminds us of the Arab camel riding days.

PAS in politics because there is good money there. Ask (Tan Sri) Hadi (Awang).

And look at the demeaning conditions imposed on KJ … Must become a Bersatu member and must agree to any seat picked by the party.

I am sure KJ has earned enough money and fame. Does he still need to be in politics? If he thinks he still needs the fun of politics, he should join PKR. – April 21, 2023
