A new voting trend that favours PH could be shaping up for state polls
CONTARY to claims by Perikatan Nasional (PN) that it has an upper hand in the upcoming state polls, a pro-Pakatan Harapan (PH) pollster has suggested that a weakening green tsunami trend is brewing in the East Coast and northern states this time around.
Ilham Centre CEO Hisomuddin Bakar claimed that he observed such trend on a poll that he personally conducted on Facebook (FB) recently. The FB poll focused on questions related to the Malay-Islamic agenda.
Six states, namely Penang, Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu are likely to have their state elections simultaneously in July or latest by August this year.
Interestingly, findings by Hisomuddin revealed that 76% of respondents viewed that the current unity government of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has not sidelined the Malay and Muslim agenda.
“I feel that there is a new trend surfacing. This is when I posed a rather controversial question if the respondents are confident that the unity government is capable of defending the Malay and Muslim agenda,” he told the Suara Keadilan news portal.

“So based on outcome, I think Anwar’s policy with a glaring Malay image has an impact on both the Malay segment and Malay audience.”
Nevertheless, Hisomuddin caveated that his latest poll may not be as accurate as the results of previous polls conducted by the Ilham Centre.
However, he noticed some interesting developments that can be used as a guide to the current political direction trends, for example when the visitors who answered his poll questions were consistent on one benchmark.
“From the beginning when I ran this poll, I saw that whether there were 10 respondents, 100 respondents or 200 respondents, the percentage was consistent. We asked one question from the beginning and the percentage was almost the same,” he noted.
“For example, when I asked do you understand the Madani Government’s agenda, 65% of the respondents said ‘yes’ and 35% said ‘no’. From the beginning till the time polling closed, the percentage remained constant at 65%, 63% (for responses in the affirmative).”
All-in-all, the poll conducted personally by Hisomuddin posed 10 questions in a day and it was conducted for a few days before the Hari Raya Aidilfitri to gauge the mood of Malaysians with regard to the latest current issues. – April 22, 2023
