'Top 5' Umno meeting on GE15 date postponed, PM says
Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced tonight that a meeting of Umno’s top five leaders which was set for this Saturday (Sept 17) has been postponed.
He said he does not know the reason for the postponement nor when it will be held next.
During an event at the Majestic Hotel in Kuala Lumpur tonight he told the media that his meeting to discuss the date for the next general election was off the table.
“It’s not this Saturday night. It has been postponed. This Saturday was supposed to be the Umno supreme council special meeting but it’s been suspended. So we await the next date,” said the Bera MP.
“The party secretary-general (Ahmad Maslan) will announce the (next) date,” Ismail Sabri (above) said, adding that Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan was originally meant to attend the Saturday meeting.
Earlier today, Mohamad said the party’s supreme council will meet to decide whether to negotiate with PAS over the upcoming 15th general election.
“The pros and cons of negotiating with PAS will be discussed only if the matter is raised at the Umno supreme council meeting slated to take place later this month.
“Umno is not me, Umno is a party. So, the party has to decide. My view is not important. What’s important is how the party views it,” he told reporters.
