Najib’s FB page “reveals” his “house in prison”

THE admins of Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s Facebook page, likely annoyed with the constant social media posts claiming the convicted former prime minister has a “special house” in Kajang Prison, have “revealed” a video of the house in question.

In a Facebook post yesterday (Sept 10), Najib’s Facebook page admin repurposed a video of a trip the Pekan MP took in June to a homestay run by a Felda settler in Kledang, Perak.

In the 56-second video dated June 17, 2022, Najib walks around the homestay before pausing in front of a picture of himself handing over a RM1 mil mock cheque for the 2010 Anugerah Keceriaan Kampung Felda (AKKF) held at Felda Kledang.

He then walks around the homestay to look at another picture.

“What a beautiful homestay… they’ve kept pictures of (their) memories with me too,” the video caption had stated.

Snippets of that video have since gone viral on social media platforms, including TikTok, to show that Najib is supposedly receiving special treatment after being imprisoned over his RM42 mil SRC International corruption case.

It was alleged that Najib has not been housed in a jail cell but is instead living in a house on the premises meant for senior prison officers – a claim that the Prisons Department has flat out denied.

Netizens had also claimed that the house in question was “specially renovated” for Najib and expressed concern that the legal system was in “jeopardy”.

An earlier Facebook post on Najib’s page last week had shared screenshots of such postings, some of which were from Facebook pages in support of former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his Pejuang party, and said, “How persistent”.

“Hope this helps”

In their latest Facebook post yesterday, the admins of Najib’s page said they would make things easier for everyone by re-uploading the video once more.

It also sarcastically recommended folks to “follow the standard operating procedures (SOP)”: copying the video link, downloading the video and sharing it with everyone.

“Hope this helps,” it added tongue-in-cheek.

In an earlier posting, the Facebook admins lambasted those who spread the video and claimed Najib had a special house in Kajang Prison.

“To what extent do they get satisfaction?” they asked.

“Persecuted during politics. Oppressed when he was in power. Slandered even when he is unable to defend himself. Now, circulating a video of the so-called “home”.

“Spread it as much as you want,” they added. “Behind the heinousness of these people’s crimes there will be a ray of goodness.”

On Aug 23, the Federal Court rejected Najib’s final appeal in his SRC International case and upheld his seven charges of power abuse, criminal breach of trust and money laundering, RM210 mil fine and 12-year jail sentence. He went to Kajang Prison right after that.

The following day, the Prisons Department similarly denied that Najib was in a jail cell with shelves, three beds and a table, as was alleged in a viral post.

A Google image search returned results suggesting that the photo is a refurbished cell in the Swiss Champ-Dollon Prison. – Sept 11, 2022
