A former World Bank economist has rejected the idea of setting up another national car manufacturing company, saying it will incur more losses to the country.
Lim Teck Ghee said Proton has been a white elephant, costing the country billions of ringgit in public funds and burdening consumers with cars that are priced too high for the local market just to support the prestigious project.
He said it was not economically feasible to build another local car company as the industry was increasingly competitive and had to contend with complex supply chains and changing consumer demands.
“New technologies, the rise of electric and hybrid cars, fuel price issues and a loss of other variables need to be brought into the equation besides the low productivity of many of our local enterprises,” Lim told FMT.
FMT - Mahathir’s ‘old school of thought’ on car project criticised (extracts):
Deputy Transport Minister Aziz Kaprawi says starting what would be a third national car project would not be feasible.
Referring to Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s plan to initiate a new national car manufacturing company should Pakatan Harapan (PH) take over Putrajaya, Aziz said the former prime minister was promoting an “old school of thought” in relying on the domestic market for the national car company’s success.
“The country cannot afford to create another ‘Proton’.
“It would just not make sense for Malaysia to have another automotive firm that was not competitive, locally or in the global market,” he said.
Mahathir is a man who does NOT repent on his mistakes because he will never admit his is wrong. He is unable to regret losing billions owed by Malaysians in his games and national hobbies because those losses were not his own money.
Thus he will continue to do what he has been doing.
There's no denying he loves making cars, though he doesn't have the business acumen for this particular industry. He is so enamoured of the automobile industry that he even has the brazen nerve to consider himself Chief Tester of Proton. Balderdash!
And Lim Kit Siang stupidly allies himself with such a man, one known to be anti-Non Malay.
Are we going to waste further billions to satisfy the ego of this little pocket dictator? Will we have this man have another go at the world's money market in a new scheme called Prorugee but with out Malaysian tax money?
y after we sold proton, car price still remain higher than mahathir era, is it bec dedak eater like u, mt liar, hadi n many rci promoter n withness aka kaki dedak is too demanding, thats y our billions continue to flow into u people deep pocket? we must learn from u the tactics after kissing mahathir ass for 22 years, the lip is still thick enough to kiss najib one, salute.

Deletewhat was probably said in jest should not be taken seriously unless you are on a life mission to put down a person you obviously detest a great deal at every opportunity
ReplyDeletepeople make mistakes like what your one time idol LKS is doing now but let's cut them some slack, give them the benefit of doubt if they are doing something about it to correct the past... don't take things personally by being offended or upset by what someone said or do in the past, think of it as doing something good for the country as a whole not settling scores
