Health DG: Surge in new Covid-19 cases in Klang Valley, Seremban is worrying

PETALING JAYA: The surge in new Covid-19 cases in the Klang Valley and Seremban is a cause for concern, says Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

“Our concern right now is that in Klang Valley and Negri Sembilan, there is a surge in cases, even more so than Sabah.

“So we have to strengthen active case detection. What we are worried about is the high population density and the movement of people, ” the Health director-general said in a press conference on Thursday (Nov 12).

He added that it was more difficult to monitor the movement of people in Klang Valley, which has a population of about six million.

Dr Noor Hisham said that the ministry was constantly looking for ways to improve their contact tracing methods.

Citing an example, he said those who returned to Kelantan from the Klang Valley with a permit are to put on wristbands for identification.

“Wearing the wrist band is compulsory. The orange band is meant for those who have to undergo a 14-day home quarantine while the green band is for those who travel to attend to business matters and meetings.

“They are not allowed to travel elsewhere, ” he said.

Sabah saw 319 new infections, while Negri Sembilan and Klang Valley each saw 240 new cases and 224 new cases respectively.

When combined, Klang Valley and Seremban have a total of 464 cases on Thursday, exceeding Sabah’s daily count of 319.
