Don’t test me, says Muhyiddin over dare to trigger Johor polls

Muhyiddin Yassin said he does not want to make a move that could cause the collapse of the Johor government because he did not want a repeat of what happened in Melaka.

BEMBAN: Former prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin has warned Umno veteran Shahrir Samad not to test him in triggering Johor polls.

Shahrir, the former Johor Bahru MP, had dared Muhyiddin to withdraw support for the Umno-led Johor government, a move that would lead to the fall of the state government and trigger an election.

“I’m not scared. Do not test me as I can do it tomorrow.

“But I will not do it because I do not want to repeat what Melaka is enduring right now by having a state election,” said the Bersatu president .

Bersatu has 14 seats in the Johor state assembly while Barisan Nasional’s Umno and MIC have 15 seats. Pakatan Harapan has 27 seats in the 56-seat assembly.

Muhyiddin said the crisis in Melaka was caused by Umno.

kt notes: wasn't it PKR?

“Look at what Umno is doing in Melaka … evil! Umno is the reason why the Melaka state election is taking place,” he told a press conference.

Muhyiddin said he knew Shahrir well and was sure the latter wanted an election in Johor, just like in Melaka.

“I know him well. This is how Umno leaders function. Do not challenge me. I am the president of Bersatu and chairman of Perikatan Nasional,” he said adding that Shahrir’s challenge was stupid.

Shahrir had said earlier that there were no qualified Bersatu state representatives in Johor to become chief minister.

Umno and Bersatu will be up against each other in the Melaka state election which is taking place on Nov 20, with early voting on Nov 16.
