Umno veteran says PN's defeated chief minister candidate 'not that great'

Veteran Umno leader Shahrir Samad has taken a dig at Perikatan Nasional (PN)'s chief minister candidate in the Malacca state election Mas Ermieyati Samsudin, saying she was "not that great".

Former minister Shahrir said he felt sorry for the fate that befell Mas Ermieyati (above) who lost in the Tanjung Bidara state seat.

"She chose to contest the Tanjung Bidara state seat though she still holds the post of a federal deputy minister, on the grounds she will be appointed as the chief minister of Malacca if she wins in Tanjung Bidara and PN wins the state.

"She lost by a margin of no more than 1000. But the point is, BN won all the state seats in its own parliamentary constituencies," Shahrir said in a post on Facebook today.

Earlier, Mas Ermieyati, who is also Masjid Tanah MP, lost to BN candidate Ab Rauf Yusoh as the Umno-led BN coalition swept to victory with 21 seats while PN only picked up two.

She is currently a deputy minister in the prime minister's department (parliament and law).

Shahrir said Mas Ermieyati was lucky to be able to continue her service as deputy minister.

"Mas Ermieyati is a real pity. After GE14, she was one of the first to jump out of Umno and join Bersatu," he added.
