Hope Melaka’s “love” for the corrupt not a nationwide phenomenon, Kadir says
LET us hope that Melaka voters’ acceptance of kleptocrats and members of the “court cluster” does not become a “nationwide pandemic”, former Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) leader A Kadir Jasin said.
“Maybe the people of Melaka has been condemned centuries ago to live in darkness and subjugation forever,” he said, in a Facebook post.
Yesterday, Barisan Nasional (BN) won two thirds majority in the Melaka state election, defeating rivals Perikatan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan.
PKR got wiped out while DAP won four seats, with Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) winning one.
As for Perikatan, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) won only two seats, while it allies PAS and Gerakan won nothing.
On that note, Kadir cautioned BN not to get too excited over the win as the victory could be attributed to poor voter turnout.
“The outcome is not something to honour but also not one to humour. The turnout was disappointingly low as only 65.85% out of 476,037 registered voters came to cast their votes,” he stated.
Berating his former party and PAS, Kadir opined that their future look bleak, adding Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s betrayal of Pakatan Harapan is coming back to haunt him.
“Their laughable situation can be easily described this way. Muhyiddin betrayed the Pakatan, Umno betrayed him and went on to clobber him silly in Melaka.
“And having PAS as a partner is a joke. I will not be surprised if the politically promiscuous party gravitates back to UMNO via the Muafakat Nasional (MN) charter,” he quipped.
AGC, judiciary must remain firm to principles of justice
On that note, Kadir said that BN’s victory in Melaka should not be seen as a “cleansing” process of its tainted leaders and stressed the need for justice to prevail.
“For this, I would like to believe that our judiciary is independent and fair although the Attorney General Chambers (AGC), through its public prosecutors, has the power to influence trials.
“It is for this reason that the legal fraternity and members of the federal legislature must continue to be strident and relentless in demanding explanation as to why the AGC dropped the appeal against the acquittal of former Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor in a corruption case,” he remarked. – Nov 21, 2021.

I seriously believe that if the voter turnout had reached 70%, the outcome would have differed little; meaning BN would still get the two third majority.
ReplyDeleteTo use low voter turnout as an excuse is to try to run away from reality.
But I am sorry to say that I seriously doubt the independence of the judiciary.
As for the AGC, unless a good explanation for the drop of the appeal against the acquital of Adnan, Idrus should be replaced as the AG.
