SARAWAK PKR today voiced concern over the move by Petroleum Sarawak Bhd (Petros) to take full control of the supply and distribution of cooking gas cylinders in Sarawak.
Its deputy chairman Senator Abun Sui Anyit said Petros was fully owned by the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) state government.
“This gives the state government a tight grip over the supply and distribution of cooking gas and such a move must come with full transparency and accountability
"We in Sarawak PKR view with caution the latest development of Petros taking full control of the supply and distribution of cooking gas cylinders for the whole of Sarawak.
"It means that the GPS state-owned company has full monopoly of the cooking gas cylinder supply as well as its distribution network for Sarawak and the question is how will the people benefit from this,” he said in a statement.
He said Petros continued to see the gas cylinders at RM26.60 and some have questioned why the price remained the same.
"The cooking gas should be sold at a lower price for Sarawak households since the state controls the monopoly now and can decide on the pricing," Sui said.

The people were told to bring their cooking gas cylinders belonging to Petronas (green colour) and Shell (yellow) to the nearest Petros cooking gas dealer to exchange for the Petros cylinder (red colour).
Sui, who is also Sarawak Pakatan Harapan information chief, said GPS must be accountable for how it manages the cooking gas cylinder supplies as this is a necessity for all households. –The Vibes, December 27, 2023
