FMT:
PSM ‘thrilled’ Sivakumar replaced as HR minister
The PSM deputy chairman says the party could work with previous HR ministers but not V Sivakumar.
V Sivakumar was the only minister dropped by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in his first Cabinet reshuffle.
PETALING JAYA: Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) has welcomed today’s Cabinet reshuffle, particularly Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s decision to drop V Sivakumar as the human resources minister.
“We are especially thrilled that the human resources minister has been replaced,” said PSM deputy chairman S Arutchelvan.
“We have been able to work with all previous human resources ministers except him (Sivakumar),” he said in a statement.
Arutchelvan also said the reshuffle indicated that Anwar was listening to critics of his administration.
“The (reshuffled) Cabinet has a good layer of matured and experienced politicians,” he added.
He said he hoped Anwar would now carry out long overdue reforms, especially since he enjoys two-thirds majority support in the Dewan Rakyat.
Sivakumar of DAP was the only minister dropped by Anwar in his first Cabinet reshuffle since his appointment as prime minister last year.
Sivakumar’s tenure was marked by a Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission probe into the recruitment of foreign workers, which led to the arrest of three of his aides, who were subsequently released.
Sivakumar sacked five of his aides after the probe.
While he reportedly gave a statement to the authorities, Sivakumar was neither a witness nor a suspect.
Anwar said at the time there was no need for Sivakumar to go on garden leave.
Steven Sim, also from DAP, replaced Sivakumar as human resources minister. He previously served as deputy finance minister.
