PH cries foul over election agent forced to leave voting centre

AYER MOLEK: Pakatan Harapan (PH) has cried foul after one of its polling agents was asked to leave a voting centre in Ayer Molek.

The coalition has lodged a police report on the matter.

At a press conference, its Ayer Molek candidate Mohamad Rafee Ibrahim said only PH’s polling agent was asked to leave by the Election Commission (EC)’s presiding officer.

He said the officer asked the agent to leave the stream four area at the voting centre in Sekolah Kebangsaan Bendahara Seri Maharaja Kandang Melaka after two hours.

According to Rafee, the presiding officer’s rationale for asking Nasri to leave was because he had served for two hours.

“The two-hour period is the minimum a polling agent must serve and not the maximum.

“It was also strange that our agent was the only one asked to leave but not those from other parties,” he said.

Rafee added that for half an hour, PH did not have an agent in the polling stream and this has raised concerns over the possibility of cheating.

“The officer should have stopped the voting process until the matter was resolved. We are worried that the voting process could have been manipulated during our agent’s absence,” he said.

PKR head of legal affairs G Manivannan said they have since contacted the Melaka EC and that the issue has been sorted out.

However, he noted that the party would let the legal process take its course.

Separately, Rafee said PH polling agents also reported election issues such as the presence of supporters of certain political parties canvassing for votes in or around voting centres.

“Our agents quickly reported them to the EC officers and the people canvassing for votes were asked to leave,” he said.

Rafee also lamented the lack of flexibility for family members of disabled voters who were barred from accompanying them to the voting booths.
