Gerakan wants to chat with Kedah MB over 4D ban
MALACCA POLLS | A Gerakan delegation will visit Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor for a discussion over his decision to ban number betting outlets, or 4D, in the state.
When met in Malacca today, Gerakan president Dominic Lau said the visit will take place after the Malacca election.
Lau (above) said he respected the rights of any state government to implement their policies but stressed that Malaysia is multicultural and the law allows for certain individual rights.
"Yes, we have received a lot of complaints (about the ban) from Chinese and Indians. It's not that they like to gamble, but they have rights under the Federal Constitution.
"We will ask (Sanusi) to consider this because our position is we are a multi-cultural society and he must consider the views of non-Muslims and non-Malays.
"We are hoping for a win-win situation," he added.
Lau pointed out that barring licences to operate such a business might drive gaming activities underground, causing more problems.
Sanusi runs a PAS-led state government in Kedah. PAS and Gerakan are both coalition members of Perikatan Nasional (PN).
Going all out for Malacca polls
Asked if the policy in Kedah would affect Gerakan's chances in the Malacca election, Lau did not provide a direct answer.
"To us, these are two different matters. Firstly, the decision (for the 4D ban) was made for Kedah, not Malacca... We shouldn't bring this issue to the Malacca election.
"We will go all out to ensure that PN wins in Malacca," he said.
Lau added that inter-party issues would be sorted out at the PN national leadership level.
He stressed that the Kedah government's decision was its own and not that of PN.

The nons of course realise that to acquiesce with the Kedah MB imbecilic act would encourage further encroachment into things non islamic.

Notwithstanding what Gerakan say about this issue being unrelated to the Melaka polls, we must send a message at the polls. Send PAS packing. Send PN packing.

Deletewakakaka don't hold your breath folks, he didn't sound too urgent or enthusiastic, they would probably talk about the awful weather over some kueh muih after the temperatures have cooled down, he ALREADY mentioned inter party issues would be sorted out at the pn national leadership level wakakaka and what can a lone Christian party leader sort out with a majority ultra malay muslim coalition
