DAP man slams IGP over response to claims on Twitter

Puchong MP Gobind Singh Deo wants Inspector-General of Police Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani to state whether the allegations on Twitter are true or false.

KUALA LUMPUR: An opposition MP today took the nation’s top cop to task after he said that allegations made by a social media user over supposed scandals involving authorities had been sensationalised.

But Gobind Singh Deo (PH-Puchong) wondered whether the allegations were true or false.

He said the public wanted to know whether there was any truth to the claims made by Edisi Siasat.

“Why are we getting such a response from the inspector-general of police?

“A response that does not address the claims. (He should) reply to the issue, yet his comments were on other matters. This only raises questions,” he said during the debate on the 2022 Supply Bill in the Dewan Rakyat today, referring to Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani.

Earlier today, Acryl Sani said police were tracking down individuals behind the “whistleblower” Twitter account Edisi Siasat, adding that most of the allegations of scandals among the authorities had been sensationalised.

He said police had opened 13 investigation papers on the account, which tweeted information on alleged corruption and abuse of power involving government agencies.

Acryl Sani also said allegations against the police force would be channelled to Bukit Aman’s integrity and standards compliance department for a thorough investigation.

Contacted later, Gobind said it served no purpose to allege that a claim had been sensationalised without elaborating.

“What does it mean? If one says the claims are sensationalised, they should explain how they came to such a conclusion.”
