KUALA LUMPUR – Transport Minister Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong has denied an allegation that the Road Transport Department (RTD) imposed a new rule requiring school bus bumpers to be painted blue for inspection at the Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centre (Puspakom).

In a Facebook post last night, he shared a statement by RTD and Puspakom regarding the claim made by Bagan MP Lim Guan Eng two days ago.

The rules on the colours and markings on all school buses are still in force, and no changes have been made by RTD, in accordance with the School Bus (Colours and Marks) Rules 1987.

“Under the rules, all school buses in operation must be painted amber, while the wording ‘Bas Sekolah’ must be in black,” said Wee.

He said the supposed “new” rule was never issued to any school bus operator in the country.

Lim, in a Facebook post, claimed that school bus owners have complained to him about the new ruling by the Transport Ministry and Puspakom, which would see them incurring additional costs.

Wee said Lim is “just making up stories” without providing solid evidence, and called on the latter to stop slandering others for political gain.

RTD and Puspakom advised all parties to get accurate and verified information through government agencies before disseminating it on social media. – Bernama, September 28, 2021

  2. I won't be surprised if the issue brought up by Lim Guan Eng is a real one, could be implemented by specific JPJ and Puspakom officers and locations, just not a national ruling.

Government officers often impose "Cari Makan" based rules, especially when the public is not in a position to argue much.

  3. KT , of course, is both very quick to defend and promote Wee KHAT Siong , and quick to lambast Lim Guan Eng, on all manner of issues.

Withdrawing, limiting licence based on age should be last resort - Wee
    09- 26- 2021

PUTRAJAYA: Withdrawing or limiting a valid licence issued to individuals based on their age should be a last resort, after transparently verifying the person’s fitness level to drive with a recognised test, Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong said today.

With regard to suggestions to limit the issuance of Malaysian Driving Licence (LMM) to senior citizens aged 70 and above, Wee in a statement said many drivers above 70 displayed greater competence in driving compared to those younger than them.

“A broader, more holistic angle including the need for mobility and other socio-economic factors should be considered, instead of only the age factor,“ he said.

He said a driver’s licence was granted by the road transport authority as accreditation to an individual who had satisfactorily shown the competency and ability to safely operate a vehicle on the road as provided under the Road Transport Act 1987 (Act 333).

Section 30 of Act 333 also provides for licence holders to surrender their licences voluntarily at any Road Transport Department office for medical reasons that may pose a danger to other road users, he said.

In response to reports on the proposal to limit the renewal of Motor Vehicle Licences (LKM) or road tax for those aged 70 and above, Wee said the suggestion could potentially lead to a scenario where a person would simply borrow a vehicle from another owner to circumvent the rule.

Wee said any policy-related changes with regard to the driver’s licence and road tax must be handled with a systematic, evidence-based approach, and treated with foresight.

“Simply refusing a driver the means to drive on the basis of their age or based on isolated or anecdotal evidence is discriminatory,“ he said.
