Why still no action on Adib’s killers, asks Rayer

KUALA LUMPUR: An opposition MP is demanding an explanation from home minister Hamzah Zainudin as to why no action had been taken against suspects linked to the death of a fireman three years ago.
In what seemed to be a reversal of roles, RSN Rayer (PH-Jelutong) said opposition MPs wanted the suspects involved to be hauled to court.
“Adib died in 2018,” he said referring to Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim.
“Yet, why has no action been taken against the suspects involved in his death,” he said when debating the King’s address this evening.
When Pakatan Harapan was in power, opposition members, especially those from PAS, had been clamouring for action against those who killed Adib.
Adib died at the National Heart Institute a month after being sent to the scene of a riot outside the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in Subang Jaya in November 2018.
In 2019, the Coroner’s Court ruled that “more than two unidentified persons” had killed the fireman.
Rayer went on to say any case involving the death of a civil servant should be closed as soon as possible.
He said that even though the home minister had been changed twice, Adib’s case has yet to be resolved.
“So my question is why have the suspects not been charged until now. I am pleading with the home minister to provide an answer.”
In December, Hamzah had said that the investigation was in the final stages and the results of the investigation would be submitted to the Attorney-General’s Chambers.

It is typical of Malaysia for cases to be shelved for years (hopefully to be forgotten)
ReplyDeleteThink Indira Ghandi, Teoh Beng Hock and the kidnapped pastors to name the more famous cases.
I blame the opposition too for their lack of tenacity in chasing for such cases to be resolved.
I am still wondering what is the status of the laptop dustribution programme. Looks like the opposition has forgotten about the programme and also the students who desperately need these laptops.
During the Harapan administration, Race and Religion Warriors accused PH of interfering with the case to "protect" the guilty.
