Never underestimate “scheming” Muhyiddin, Puad warns Umno



UMNO supreme council member Datuk Puad Zarkashi urged the people, especially Umno leaders, not to underestimate former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin despite being ousted from power.

“Nothing is impossible. Muhyiddin has always been a fighter. At the same time, he is also a good manipulator. Those are his advantages and he always know when to strike.

“He ascended to become former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s deputy by pressuring then premier Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to speed up the power transition plan in 2009.

“And Muhyiddin became Malaysia’s eighth prime minister using the Sheraton Move,” he said in a Facebook post.



Despite being ousted from power last month, Muhyiddin made a “comeback” after Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob appointed him as National Recovery Council’s (NRC) chairman.

Yesterday, Malaysiakini reported Muhyiddin as saying that the coalition he formed last year, Perikatan Nasional, would contest in the next general election.

The Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) president also announced that he would contest in the polls.

“This is until such time when an election can be held safely and the mandate is returned to the people to choose a new Government.

“When that time comes, Perikatan and I, as its chairperson, will take part in the election. With Allah’s grace and support of the people, we will make a comeback,” he said, in a speech in conjunction with Bersatu’s fifth anniversary.

Touching on the matter, Puad said that despite Muhyiddin’s announcement, everyone should note that Bersatu lacked grassroots support and it all depends on which party dominates the Government.

The former deputy minister added that Umno itself had decided to contest for the 16 constituencies where its incumbent lawmakers hopped to Bersatu and Parti Warisan Sabah.

“The only ones who could stop Muhyiddin’s plans are former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, former deputy prime minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Umno grassroots.

“But do bear in mind that Muhyiddin and Bersatu are still part of the Government and I bet the Pagoh MP has something up his sleeves,” Puad concluded. – Sept 11, 2021
