“Dishonourable and cowards”: Zahid lashes out at Umno defectors!

THOSE who betrayed Barisan Nasional by (BN) jumping to other parties following its defeat at the 14th General Election have no honour, said its chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

“In my view, they are also cowards. These people are motivated by money and power. Some of them even feared that they will be hauled up in court if they didn’t defect,” he thundered, at the annual general assembly of the Makkal Sakti Party (MMSP) today conducted virtually.

After BN’s loss at the last general election, several of its leaders defected to its splinter party, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), which was then led by former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

Among the prominent leaders include Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin (Home Minister), Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed (Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department), Datuk Abdul Latiff Ahmad and Datuk Ronald Kiandee (Agriculture and Food Industries Minister).

Speaking to MMSP delegates, Zahid said that while Umno MP Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said is working hard to push the administration to enact the anti-hopping law, he urged leaders not to take things for granted and be attentive of what is happening around them.

“One of the ways to curb such dishonourable act is by strengthening ties among BN component parties and our allies.

“Plus, we must also work hard to serve the people and strengthen our grassroots across the country,” the Bagan Datuk MP stressed.

Targetting Pakatan Harapan leaders, the former deputy prime minister urged the former not blame BN or Umno for its collapse in February 2020.

“It was your failure to fulfill promises made that triggered your ouster from Putrajaya. So, don’t blame us for that,” Zahid reminded.

As for MMSP, he promised the Indian-based party that he would find ways to get its leaders several seats to contest in the next general election, either for Parliament or state assemblies.

“I feel MMSP is gaining traction among the people and I will do my best to get you seats to contest in the next polls,” Zahid concluded. – Sept 19, 2021.
