Cuepacs pans ex-AG for linking civil servants to Umno

The Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs) has criticised former attorney-general Tommy Thomas for linking civil servants to Umno.

This was over Thomas' comment during a webinar where he said some civil servants have become convinced that Umno's interest and national interest are intertwined.

Cuepacs president Adnan Mat said Thomas' comment was offensive and should not come from someone who himself had held a post in the civil service.

"There was no need for him to link civil servants with any political parties or ideology and the principles upheld by civil servants are to be neutral and professional.

"Civil servants will always support the government of the day regardless of the political background of the government's leadership.

"As the government machinery, the focus of civil servants is to ensure that the services are always at the best level in the interest of the people, in line with the policies of the government of the day," he said.

Thomas, during the webinar yesterday, opined that Umno remains to be a force to be reckoned with but could suffer due to the government's mismanagement of the Covid-19 pandemic.

"Umno’s pre-dominance in our national landscape has been so overpowering that it has convinced thousands of public servants over the decades that Umno is synonymous with Malaysia. What is Umno’s interest is in the national interest," Thomas had said.

Adnan pointed out that civil servants are barred from expressing political opinions and hopes people will also respect that by not associating them with politics.

"Civil servants, like the Malaysian public, have their political inclinations but they remain professional and neutral in their duties to the people and country," Adnan said.

  1. Cuepacs can pan Tommy Thomas as much as they like.
The truth is many Civil Servants, over years and years, up to the topmost levels were in cahoots with UMNO
Important Decisions were politicised, contract awards were made to UMNO cronies, decisions and actions made to suppress the Opposition and various sundry critics, 1MDB was covered up by Civil Servants.

  2. The problem is when the gomen of the day is the same (ie UMNO) for 60 years it is no surprise than 99% of civil servants will have been brainwashed. If they want to get ahead they must sokong and bodek the chain of command in the civil service, which will be filled by UMNO.
