“Care to answer?”: Najib pokes Thomas over MACC advisory board’s censure
DATUK Seri Najib Tun Razak has urged ex-Attorney General (AG) Tan Sri Tommy Thomas to answer claims by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Advisory Board (LPPR) yesterday over the latter’s unprofessional conduct during his tenure.
“The MACC advisory board accused Thomas of not being transparent, unprofessional and of being politically motivated,” said the former prime minister in a Facebook post.
Yesterday, LPPR chairman Tan Sri Abu Zahar Ujang issued a statement calling all quarters not to politicise the body as it wished to serve its role as a check and balance mechanism to the anti-graft agency effectively.
He said back in early Feb 2019, there were shortcomings involving the AG’s decision to prosecute certain corruption charges and issues affecting MACC’s administration.
“As some decisions were made unprofessionally, with political motivation attached to it, MACC had to bear the brunt of its repercussions,” Zahar reportedly said.
Thomas was serving as AG back then.
On that note, Najib opined that Zahar’s statement would probably explain why most cases taken up by Thomas back then had been quashed by the courts recently.
The Pekan MP added that usually the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) would only prosecute a case if they are about 90% sure of getting a conviction.
“That is why we need a royal commission of inquiry to probe the alleged interference in Government institutions.
“Thomas himself had made the same allegation in his memoir,” Najib concluded. – Sept 9, 2021

KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 2): Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak is threatening to sue former attorney-general Tan Sri Tommy Thomas if he does not retract an allegedly “libellous publication” in his newly-released memoir “My Story: Justice in the wilderness”, which implicates Najib in the murder of Altantuya Shaariibuu.
Thomas’ controversial memoir, which was published last week, stated that Sirul Azhar Umar provided evidence which corroborated the claims of his co-accused Azilah Hadri, according to a senior deputy public prosecutor (DPP) whom he had instructed to meet and interview Sirul at the Villawood immigration detention centre in Australia.
Both Sirul and Azilah were former members of the police's elite Special Action Force. They were convicted of the 2006 murder of the Mongolian national.

PETALING JAYA: Tan Sri Tommy Thomas has responded to former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's letter of demand seeking a public apology for allegedly defaming him in his recently released autobiography.
"Our client denies all material allegations in your letter. Furthermore, our client denies that he has committed the tort of defamation against your client, as alleged or at all," he said in a letter of reply through his lawyers Tommy Thomas Advocates and Solicitors.
"We have instructions to accept service of process. All our client's rights are reserved," read the letter dated Feb 4 that was addressed to Najib's lawyers Messrs. Shafee & Co.
On Feb 2, Najib sent a letter through his solicitor to demand an apology and RM10mil in damages from Thomas over allegations against him in his book titled "My Story: Justice in the Wilderness".
In the letter, Najib also gave Thomas until noon on Feb 5 to provide a satisfactory reply, failing which legal proceedings will be started against him.

Yes let's have RCI on Jibby firing the previous AG Gani Patail and appointing Apandi Ali, who Obediently declared Jibby innocent of all things 1MDB (but in the process made public evidence to the contrary, but that is a different joke ha ha ha).
ReplyDeleteCorrupt Quid Pro Quo as I saw it.
DeleteOn the contrary, it is the current MACC leadership's summary withdrawal of the case against Noor Ehsanuddin Mohd Harun Narrashi which does not pass the Smell test.
ReplyDeleteCash and Assets "lent" to the benefit of a person , if there was Quid Pro Quo involved , is still corruption, even if it was subsequently returned.
Maybe it was hurriedly returned at the first whiff of a caste against him.
Politicised and unprofessional is the MACC under Abu Zahar Ujang.
Anyone who has borrowed money or other kinds of assets will know that one can derive plenty of pecuniary benefits even if they needed to be subsequently returned.
If there was a Trade-Off , then corruption has been committed.
The accusations and counter accusations is really mind boggling.
ReplyDeleteWhatever the MACC Advisory board may say about Tommy Thomas, it is a fact that the MACC is a diseased institution being used politically by the government of the day.
So, I am not impressed by this latest revelation.
