Police at it again with draconian intimidation of bloggers

malaysiakini informs us of another totally unnecessary draconian intimidation of bloggers.

Police took Nathaniel Tan of PKR away for questioning, without providing any reason at all. They entered his office at about 4.45 pm today, and told Tan to follow them to the Bukit Aman police headquarters. The policemen also requested that Tan bring his notebook computer with him. It is believed that he is being questioned on matters relating to certain postings on the Internet.

Let me register my support for the immediate release of Nat Tan. Unless the police has a justified reason for the detention or even questioning of any citizen, they just can't order poeple around, and into police station for hours.

Nat and I have not and do not see eye to political eye, but I abhor and indeed protest the totally unjustified taking of him by the police - why the hell can’t the police, if they need to do any questioning, do so at Nat’s office?

  1. Just heard about it, hope he's ok but signs are not good when the Five-Os are denying he's in their custody. There's no trail in this case, not even contact numbers and the 3 claimed to be SB. Let's hope it's a minor 'cakap-cakap pasal internet' and nothing more!

  2. Sig Heil ! Malaysia's version of the Gestapo.
The communist are long gone from the jungle, yet the entire state security apparatus allegedly created to fight communism is in full strength - the regime's first priority is to protect itself.

    Anyway, enough of my rantings.

I fully support the call for Nat Tan's immediate release.
