MCA dismisses suggestions
to sit out Sabah polls
Party president Wee Ka Siong says people can make their own ‘analysis’, which is common ahead of elections.

Wee said it was normal for such rumours to be spread ahead of elections.
“It’s fine, let them talk. I am not restricting their right to make their own analysis,” he told reporters after MCA’s 76th anniversary celebration at the party’s headquarters here today.
“How we contest (in the Sabah state election) and who our ‘partners’ will be need to be finalised soon.
“In the context of Sabah, each party wants to place its bets when more than one party is in the coalition.”
Earlier, during his speech, Wee urged all party members to prepare for upcoming state and federal elections, rather than focus on internal party elections.
“The internal election is not our focus right now. Instead, winning more seats (in state and general elections) is our priority,” he said.
“If we fail to win any seats for five consecutive years, we will gradually fade from the public eye and lose our ability to fulfil MCA’s aspirations.”
On Feb 11, FMT quoted a source as saying that Barisan Nasional would be represented by Umno and Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah in the next Sabah election, while ally MCA would be advised to sit out the contest and help the coalition’s candidates.
In the 2020 state election, MCA lost all the four seats – Kapayan, Elopura, Karamunting and Likas – it contested in.
In the last state election, BN won 14 seats and was for three years part of the state government until a failed coup to oust chief minister Hajiji Noor in January 2023.
BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had previously said the coalition would join forces with Pakatan Harapan for the Sabah polls, which must be held before the end of the year.
