  • Following Kelantan’s lead, the Kuala Terengganu City Council orders all business premises under its jurisdiction to close on the first day of Hari Raya.

  • However, certain businesses are allowed to open after 1pm.

The Kuala Terengganu City Council (MBKT) has ordered all business premises under its jurisdiction to close on the first day of Hari Raya.

However, it would allow certain businesses to operate after 1pm.

According to a notice on its Facebook page today, the directive to close for the entire day involves shopping malls, supermarkets, and hypermarkets.

However, businesses such as fast-food outlets, convenience stores such as 7-Eleven, Treleaf Mart, DIY, and ECO Shop would be allowed to operate after 1pm.

“MBKT urges everyone to cooperate to ensure no business is open during the day and time specified.

“Legal action will be taken should anyone fail to comply with the directive,” the notice reads.

Earlier, Kelantan state executive council member Hilmi Abdullah defended the state government’s decision to close business premises on the first day of Syawal, citing that it complies with by-laws and the Holidays Act 1951.

Hilmi said this after former law minister Zaid Ibrahim said the Kelantan government could get sued for its directive.
