Kit Siang asks Muhyiddin: Was Tun M subservient to DAP during his second PM stint?

By Tan Sri Lim Kit Siang

PERIKATAN Nasional (PN) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has said that “DAP’s dominance in the current government could make it possible for a non-Malay to be appointed as a future Prime Minster (PM)”.

Muhyiddin himself was the home minister in the second Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad government.

Would he say that Dr Mahathir was subservient to DAP when he was PM and that was the reason for the Sheraton Move political conspiracy which toppled the second Mahathir government?

And why a person who was subservient to DAP when he was PM for the second time was appointed adviser to the four states of Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah and Perlis?

The instance where Dr Mahathir was cited as subservient to DAP was his speech at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in September 2018.

To use the vocabulary of PAS president Tan Sri Hadi Awang, was Dr Mahathir a DAP Gurkha in the 22 months he was PM of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government from May 2018–February 2020 and had to be toppled by the Sheraton Move political conspiracy?

Hadi had made wild and preposterous allegations against me which he had not been able to substantiate – that DAP and I were anti-Malay, anti-Islam, anti-royalty, communist and promoting Islamophobia.

‘Tun M acted on his own’

Does Muhyiddin agree with Hadi?

Why did Muhyiddin meet me in a Kuala Lumpur hotel in cloak-and-dagger circumstances in July 2016 and requested me for DAP support for him to be the seventh PM of Malaysia?

Did I become anti-Malay, anti-Islam, anti-royalty, communist and spreading Islamophobia when I declined to support him as the seventh PM as the DAP was committed to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as the PM candidate?

Would DAP be fully acceptable, nobody would be “dominant” and nobody would be “subservient” if I had supported him as the seventh PM in 2016?

Was Dr Mahathir acting as DAP’s Gurkha when he announced in his speech at the UNGA that Malaysia would ratify all the UN international covenants which caused Hadi to go on a rampage against DAP for masterminding the plan to ratify the International Covenant of the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (ICERD)?

In fact, DAP knew nothing about Dr Mahathir’s speech at the UNGA five years ago. The Foreign Minister at the time is now in Bersatu (Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah). He would be the best person to know whether Dr Mahathir was a DAP Gurkha?

I never asked Dr Mahathir for anything, whether for myself or for anyone else and never knew who he was going to appoint but I did see him once to emphasise the importance of being serious about election pledges.

Muhyiddin concurred with my statement that the Federal Constitution allows non-Malays to become a PM but thinks it is imminent – disagreeing with my view that a non-Malay would not become a Malaysian PM in the next 100 years and would probably never happen.

Nobody can become a Malaysian PM without the substantial support of all races in the country, especially the Malays.

But taking into consideration Muhyiddin’s views, is PN and Bersatu prepared to support an amendment of the Federal Constitution to provide that while a Chinese and Indian will not be PM for the next 100 years, there would be a Kadazan and Dayak PM in the next 100 years? – Dec 16, 2203

  1. That time was worse than now with that fellow as the finance minister...
