PH man slams PAS’s double standards after rules breach in Kelantan festivals
Terengganu Pakatan Harapan chairman Raja Bahrin Shah says Islamic party fails to enforce its own regulations after having criticised other states before.
Raja Bahrin Shah said PAS should not label other parties as enemies of Islam or lacking in faith, when they themselves are incapable of applying Islamic law.
PETALING JAYA: Terengganu Pakatan Harapan chairman Raja Bahrin Shah said that the PAS government, which has historically criticised other parties for not adhering to Islamic principles and morals, is now failing to maintain and uphold its own established regulations.
This comes after reported breaches of the PAS government’s regulations at events such as the “Jom Heboh” and “Rioh Sokmo” festivals in Kelantan recently.
These events permitted mixed-gender seating and reduced lighting, creating an atmosphere akin to cinema theatres, which have been banned in Kelantan by the same administration.
“If such an incident were to occur in a state not governed by PAS, it is likely that PAS would criticise the state government for being too liberal, lacking in faithfulness, and allowing for immoral behaviour to flourish,” Raja Bahrin said.
“Therefore, PAS should not label other parties as enemies of Islam or lacking in faith, especially when PAS itself speaks loudly but is incapable in itself. It also does not wholeheartedly apply the Islamic laws it accuses others of failing.”
Raja Bahrin, who is also Terengganu Amanah chief, added that there were inconsistencies in the PAS government’s approach when it comes to enforcement.
“If PAS struggles to enforce simple rules such as separate seating and lighting controls in entertainment settings, how about hudud rules and law, and the RUU355 bill, which have more complex and serious punishments?
“The people and PAS supporters have been fooled (by the party) over various Islamic regulations that seem to be mere empty political promises that PAS themselves are not ready to implement,” Raja Bahrin said.
