Don’t cherry-pick to portray ‘talk only’ govt, Syed Saddiq told
PKR Youth chief Adam Adli Abdul Halim has told off Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman for supposedly cherry-picking government initiatives in accusing the government of inaction.
This came after a press conference at the Parliament building yesterday where Syed Saddiq called Anwar Ibrahim’s administration “no action, talk only” for failing to deliver promised reforms.
In a statement last night, Adam (above, left) offered a point-by-point rebuttal and said Syed Saddiq should also be mindful of other ongoing government initiatives.
“It would be better if Syed Saddiq not only reflected on issues according to his taste but also welfare policies under Budget 2023 and ongoing initiatives to end hardcore poverty, resolve the people’s problems, and basic needs including schools and healthcare facilities, clean water supply, post-pandemic economic recovery, and the energy transition that will soon begin,” he said in a Facebook post.
Yesterday, Syed Saddiq (above, right) took aim at the government for failing to deliver on its promise to require cabinet ministers to declare their assets and for dropping corruption cases instead of fighting corruption.
He also criticised the government for failing its pledge to provide equal allocations to opposition MPs.
However, Adam replied saying the government bloc has given the opposition multiple reminders to initiate negotiations about allocations.
“However, to date, it has not been accepted and is only being used as (political) capital to argue during Dewan Rakyat sessions and perhaps capital to cheat their constituents and portray the government as tyrannical,” said Adam, who is also the Hang Tuah Jaya MP and deputy youth and sports minister.
The deputy minister also pointed out that Anwar ordered a review of the asset declaration scheme in January after denouncing the previous system as a “farce”.
As for the corruption charges against Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, which have been discontinued, Adam said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Azalina Othman Said has already responded to the issue and given the government’s commitment to separate the roles of attorney-general and public prosecutor.
The issue is also being brought to the Parliamentary Special Select Committee on Human Rights, Election, and Institutional Reform, while Anwar is slated to respond to the issue in Parliament today, he said.
