MCA polls: Ex-central committee member challenges Wee for presidency

A former MCA central committee member is challenging Wee Ka Siong for the party presidency.

The party's election committee today announced that the MCA polls this month will see Wee defend his post against Tan Chong Seng.

Tan (above, right) - who is also a former Kuala Selangor MCA division chief - has had a relatively low presence in national politics.

Wee has been MCA president since 2018 and is looking to get a second term helming the party.

His term was originally set to expire in 2021. However, in 2019, MCA amended its party constitution so that party elections are only held six months after each general election.

Meanwhile, MCA deputy president Mah Han Soon retained his post unchallenged today.

The race for the four vice-presidents posts, on the other hand, has seven candidates.

The candidates are Pamela Yong, Wee Jeck Seng, Tan Teik Cheng, Lawrence Low Ah Keong, Lim Ban Hong, Nicole Wong Siaw Ting, and Ti Lian Ker.

Jeck Seng, Tan, Lim and Ti are the four incumbents.

Wong is the outgoing MCA Youth chief, Yong is the Sabah MCA Women's chief and Low is the outgoing party deputy treasurer.

Johor state executive council member Ling Tian Soon

Over in the Youth wing, the three contenders for the wing chief post are Daniel Wa Wai How, Bernard Chan Kee Siang and Ling Tian Soon.

Of the three, Ling has the more public profile, currently serving as a Johor state executive council member.

The deputy youth chief race is a straight fight between Mike Chong Yew Chuan and Nian Yien.

For the Women's wing, incumbent chief Wong You Fong is defending her post against Ooi Siew Kim.

Incumbent Wanita MCA deputy chief Tee Hooi Ling retained her post uncontested.

Meanwhile, Chong Sin Woon, the party's current secretary-general and former Labis MP Chua Tee Yong are not contesting in the party polls.
