PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob has blamed Muhyiddin Yassin and the 12 Perikatan Nasional ministers in the Cabinet for making the government untenable and forcing him to dissolve Parliament.

Ismail cited the 12 ministers’ letter to the King to state their stand against holding the next general election (GE15) this year, and Muhyiddin’s declaration of Barisan Nasional as PN’s enemy at the polls.

The latter, he said, had caused splits in the government, when PN was a member of his administration.

“The ministers have clearly turned their backs on the prime minister, who was appointed by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, thereby eroding the spirit of solidarity in the administration,” he said in a statement.

Ismail’s statement comes in the wake of yesterday’s statement by Istana Negara that the King, Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, was disappointed with current political developments and felt he did not have any choice but to consent to the dissolution of Parliament.

Last week, Bersatu vice-president Radzi Jidin confirmed the 12 PN ministers in the Cabinet had written to the King to state their stand against holding GE15 this year, saying that they believed the focus should be on the people’s welfare at this time.

In response, Umno secretary-general Ahmad Maslan suggested that the action by the 12 gave the impression that they had no confidence in Ismail as prime minister.

The letter from the PN ministers seemed to be in response to Ismail having declared on Oct 4 that the decision to propose the dissolution of Parliament to pave the way for GE15 was his alone to make.

There are 31 ministers in Ismail’s Cabinet, of whom 13 are from Barisan Nasional, 12 from PN, four from Gabungan Parti Sarawak, and one each from Gabungan Rakyat Sabah and Parti Bangsa Malaysia.
