PETALING JAYA: Muda has asked for fewer than 15 parliamentary seats in the upcoming polls (GE15) as part of its electoral pact with Pakatan Harapan (PH).

This is according to Muda deputy president Amira Aisya Abdul Aziz who said party representatives would meet with PH again over the next few days to finalise the seats.

“Discussions have been positive.

“I can say that 70% (of the seat allocation) have been completed while the rest are overlapping seats,” she told the media at the PKR headquarters here.

Amira, who won the Puteri Wangsa seat in the Johor polls last March, also said Muda did not request to contest seats held previously by PH representatives.

It was previously reported that Muda had agreed to PH’s three conditions for their electoral pact, including the party’s backing for PH’s prime ministerial candidate.

The other two conditions are that no party would demand to contest in seats held by their respective incumbents, and that Muda will need to obtain the PH presidential council’s permission if it wanted to work with other parties.

Following the dissolution of Parliament on Oct 10, PH chairman Anwar Ibrahim was reported to have said that the coalition was only considering an electoral pact with Muda for GE15 instead of admitting it as a component party.

He said it would be difficult as such a move would need to be approved by the Registrar of Societies.

On a separate matter, Amira urged the police to reclassify its investigation into the disruption at a Muda event last night as it involved assault.

Last night, a dinner organised by Muda at Dewan Yong Shen in Muar turned ugly when about 30 individuals started throwing water bottles and firecrackers towards the crowd.

In the aftermath of the incident, a few people, including Sabah Muda chief Amos Thien, suffered some minor burns to their legs after being hit by firecrackers.

Earlier today, Johor police chief Kamarul Zaman Mamat said the authorities were investigating the case under the Peaceful Assembly Act (PAA) 2012.

“It shouldn’t be investigated under the PAA because the incident involved assault and battery.

“There were injuries and properties were damaged. Some people are still affected by the incident,” she said.
